BlackBerry Messenger for iOS and Android is finally here. While some users might have to wait in line to start running BBM on their smartphones, the app has already crossed 5 million users combined for iOS and Android. Of course, the launch has been anything but smooth with some facing server issues. BBM’s official Twitter handled tweeted out this post: BlackBerry has gone for a phased roll-out of the app through a reservation system. Users who had previously signed up with BBM will get first preference. The remaining users must wait in line for the app. Users for whom the spot is open will get an email notification telling them that the app and service are ready to download. BlackBerry says that 6 million people signed up for information about the release on BBM.com. BlackBerry Messenger logo is seen in this file photo.

For Apple users, the app will require iOS 6 and higher. We did manage to download the app on an iPad since the app was showing it was compatible with a fourth-generation iPad that has WiFi and 3G. But as far as setting up the service is concerned, it is still showing a temporary server error. Though we installed the app and completed the setup, we’re still not able to access the app and that’s something of a letdown. Hopefully, BlackBerry will sort out the server issues soon or let iPad users know if the app won’t run on their devices. As far as Android is concerned, when we tried opening the link on a Nexus 4, Google’s Play Store stated the error ‘URL not found’, again very disappointing. Hopefully BlackBerry will sort out the issues with the app rollout and get rid of the waiting list soon. Tell us how your experience has been with the BBM app download. Read more at:
