Mozilla is offering a Diwali gift to the Indians who love the experience of Firefox. The company’s Firefox OS based has been launched in India.

ZTE and ebay partner together to bring the first Firefox OS based phone ZTE Open to India. This is a 1.0 GHz Qualcomm MSM7225A Snapdragon Cortex-A5 processor based phone with a 3.5 inch TFT display screen. The OS has a specia user interface called Gaia which does not seems clumsy at all. For people who want to migrate to this interface from any OS, the shift will be easy. The phone comes with a built-in A-GPS Sensor.

This phone via the Firefox OS connects to the Firefox Marketplace that offers apps in categories like games, news and media, business and productivity. Any app can be downloaded by simply tapping on the app and pressing the install button. The installations are smooth and fast claims the company.

The ZTE Open is a dual sim phone and comes with 256 MB of RAM and 512 MB of internal memory. This can alwys be expanded up to 32 GB using a microSD card. This is a 3G phone that can support both 2G and 3G sim cards.

The phone is slightly bulky with a 12.5 mm thickness and has got a okay kind of 2 megapixel camera. It is powered by a 1200 mAh battery.

In a market where good 4 and 5 inch Android phones are available at a price below Rs. 7000, this one comes costly. But for those who look at security first this one will be delight. The OS platform uses a multi-layered security model that is designed to mitigate exploitation risks at every level.

The apps and the underlying hardware structure consists of 4 laters- Gaia, Gecko, Gonk. Gonk consists of the Linux kernel, system libraries, firmware, and device drivers. Gecko is the application runtime layer that provides the framework for app execution, and implements the Web APIs used to access features in the mobile device. Gaia is the suite of web apps that make up the user experience (apps consist of HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, images, media, and so on).
