FRISCO, Texas (AP) — A 16-year-old boy accused of killing his parents in their suburban Dallas home told his sister, "I did it," a court officer testified.
The teen appeared in court Tuesday and remains in juvenile custody on murder charges.
The bodies of his 48-year-old father and his 49-year-old mother were discovered before dawn Monday at their Frisco home when police responded to a 911 call about shots fired. Police recovered a rifle with a flashlight taped to it.
According to testimony at Tuesday's hearing, police found the teen and his older sister outside the home. The sister was visibly upset.
After the teen said, "I did it," police officers heard his sister ask, "Was this your plan?", Collin County court officer Antonia Allen testified Tuesday, according to The Dallas Morning News (http://bit.ly/VmP9BG). The officers did not hear a response and arrested the teen afterward.
Officers inside the home found the father on the floor with a gunshot wound, and the rifle lying nearby.
Mary Scanlon, the boy's court-appointed defense attorney, did not oppose the boy remaining in custody.
"We just need to do a lot of investigation and gather more information," she said.
The Associated Press is not identifying the boy or his parents because he is a juvenile.
Frisco is a wealthy suburb of Dallas, about 25 miles north of downtown.
