Microsoft Research is back with one of those projects that we want to see the light soon.Do you remember IllumiRoom ? For this demonstration is based on the augmented reality system that we both liked, only this time it is even more immersive and spectacular. Under the name of RoomAlive, the system is based on a set of projectors and depth sensors (Kinect) that map a room full to transform it into a fully interactive virtual environment. A total of six projectors chamber depth (Procam) are responsible for animating the scene to perfection after a fully automatic calibration identical to that used IllumiRoom
RoomAlive can detect vertical and horizontal surfaces and the ground in real time, and at all times records the position of the user's head to represent the objects properly with respect to the view of the player. Something like what the Amazon Phone Fire, but a large scale. With this new project, Microsoft leaves us quite clear that their intentions for the future go through augmented reality, so we'll see how these projects evolve to give life to a commercial product.
